The first Jefferson Elementary was built in 1953 on forty acres of beautiful wooded land located near Kaolin mines of Huber and Dixie Clay Companies across from present day Jefferson Elementary on Flint Drive. The school was named after Austin Jefferson who was instrumental in getting the land donated by Driver Clay Company which is now Huber Clay Company. At that time it housed grades 1-7 for the African American students in the area. Jefferson High School was built and opened its doors to African American students during the 1956-57 school year. It was one of three black schools in the Aiken area prior to integration. In the early seventies, during integration, it became Jefferson Junior High. In 1980 the present day Jefferson Elementary came into existance with the combining of three smaller elementary schools....Burnettown, Bath, and Langley. The school was renovated over a three year period and was rededicated on Tuesday, October 8, 2002.
